You Are Invited Into My Life!
I have been blogging little. Even though I have time to... Probably cos my camp's net doesn't allow me to post entries. And when I come home, I don't want to blog when my family is around...
I needa update through this post.
First and foremost, I've extended my ORD date by 5.5 months! And no, I do not receive regular pay. I am now, in short, an NSmen receiving NSF benefits. And yes, my rank is now LTA (NS)! Feels so great to be an NSmen! Many people ask me why I want to extend when others are trying to get out... Well, there are a few reasons.
Firstly, I get to go for live firing next year in South Africa! Who gets to see the launching of a surface-to-air missile at such an exotic country!?
Secondly, the NS benefits are not bad. As an officer, I get around $1.2k. If I go out and work, I'd probably get around that sum. However, after subtracting daily transport and food price, I believe the NS monetary allowance is better. As a serviceman, I get free food, lodging, utilities, and also medical service! I intend to remove the 3 screws in my right foot next May... for free!~
Thirdly, I believe that the kind of job I get outside now wouldn't really beef up my resume. From what I know, some of my friends are doing all the sai-gang office job. Can't learn much leh.... Over at my unit, I get to work an office job as well, except that I'm in uniform. Ah, of course I still have to go outfield, etc. But I still can learn how to deal with office politics, etc in unit. And I get to plan and delegate, which is what I don't think the public sector will offer young part-time workers... Of course, there is sacrifice... I have to work like crazy, very often, OT....
Fourth, my CO and BC are exceptionally great! They are officers I truly respect, and am more than willing to work under them. With such great superiors handling the unit and battery, I know that my work will be meaningful. Just a sidenote... at the time of extending, my platoon's PC was still a good person... he is a regular and just graduated this year. But he then got posted to Platoon 1, and the old PC came back this month.... and I tell you he is shit.
Anyway.... leaving for South Africa on the 27th Feb. Will only be back on 17th Mar. Oh well, kind of excited =)
